Oldest hotels in the world: Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan and Hōshi

Hōshi (法師?) is a ryokan (Japanese traditional inn) in the Awazu Onsen area of Komatsu, in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. Founded in 717-8, it was the oldest hotel in the world, that was still in operation, as far as the editors of the Guinness World Records knew, until that title was given in 2011 to Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan in Yamanashi, Japan.[1] The hotel has been operated by the same family for forty-six generations.[2]

Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan is a hot spring hotel in Hayakawa, in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan. Founded in 705, it is the oldest hotel still in operation according to the Guinness World Records.[1] The hotel has had 52 operators since its founding
